Enhancing Joint Health and Mobility in Horses: The Role of Hyaluronic Acid and MSM

Joint health plays a huge role in keeping horses happy, comfortable, and performing at their best. Whether they’re competing, working, or simply being enjoyed. Its estimated that around 60% of performance horses will experience joint issues at some point, which can lead to stiffness, pain, and reduced mobility. This can be especially noticeable during cooler weather, when joints may stiffen more easily and horses can take longer to warm up. That’s why taking a proactive approach to joint care is so important.

Signs of Joint Problems in Horses
Catching issues early can make a big difference. Keep an eye out for:
  • Lameness or changes in movement
  • Swelling or heat around joints
  • Stiffness, especially after rest or in colder conditions
  • Sensitivity or pain when touched
  • A drop in performance or willingness to work
Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in your horse’s joints, where it helps keep everything moving smoothly by lubricating and cushioning the joint. Supplementing with HA may support joint comfort, reduce friction, and improve flexibility. Research has shown that oral HA can help reduce joint swelling and fluid build-up, particularly after stress or surgery (Bergin et al., 2006).

Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM)
MSM is a natural sulfur compound well known for its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving benefits. It also supports collagen production, which is essential for maintaining strong, healthy cartilage, tendons, and ligaments. Studies suggest MSM can help reduce inflammation, protect cartilage, and improve mobility in joint conditions (Ezaki et al., 2013).

Better Together
When used together, HA and MSM provide well-rounded support for your horse’s joints. They can help manage existing discomfort while also supporting long-term joint health—keeping your horse moving freely and feeling their best all year round, even as the temperature drops.

EAC Animal Care’s In-Fusion HA and In-Fusion MSM supports your horse’s comfort and performance—promoting healthy joints, mobility, and freedom of movement year-round.
